It's all rather charming isn't it? And yet ever so simple. It works for me.

Everyday's a Holiday

It's costume time children.  Here, in this snippet are some damn fine costumes designed by Schiaparelli and worn by the wise cracking Mae West in the film Everyday's a Holiday.  This film has Mae actually playing the drums.  What a broad!  She knew how to keep in time. Yakkty yak yak.  The point of all this...Check out the HATS.   The hats are, oh, feathery, massive and askew.  Elsa Schiaparelli a designer's designer.  Outrageous and yet super fine and elegant. Drooling.

Just watch it folks for me, for the costumes.  

Going 'West' again

Our patron saint's holy grail of footwear.  Yes another pair has been found...Thanks to the very sweet Paul Leroy, check out his blog.   Shear vanity was to blame for these puppies, long dress (t'was the style of the time) to conceal that the pint sized Mae, was shorter than just plain short.  This woman had taste though, it's an elegant last, lovingly designed and luxurious materials used.  I still want to know who the cobbler was.  If anyone knows tell me, tell us all.

Mae West's Shoes

She was a genius, I am sure many will argue this fact with me.  But I say, bollocks to you!  Look at her shoes man!  It screams I am short (something i'd wear) but will add illusion.  What an artist!  Quite frankly, the dude (modellist/cobbler) who made them is a champ.  So thankyou to my friends over at the Mae West blogspot and the FIDM museum for the use of the photo.  Wish I knew more about these shoes, I am surprised however that they aren't in Brocade....Mae, where are your other pairs?
